Um estudo publicado pela British Academy afirma que crianças que usam mensagens de texto SMS em celulares (ou “texting”) leem e falam melhor que as demais. Publicado na quarta-feira (20), o estudo diz que pais e professores devem estimular a prática como forma de melhorar a atenção fonoaudiológica das crianças.
Segundo o jornal inglês “The Independent”, boa parte das crianças que escrevem abreviações de palavras dominam a forma de pronunciá-las corretamente. Pesquisadores também notaram um aumento de atenção quando algumas palavras rimavam com outras.
No entanto, os pesquisadores não conseguiram detectar qualquer sinal de que a frequência de texting tem efeito na habilidade de escrever dentro das normas corretas da língua inglesa. Eles chegaram apenas à conclusão de que usuários frequentes eram mais propensos a ter altas avaliações em testes de fluência verbal.
A pesquisa, conduzida entre um grupo de crianças entre oito e 12 anos, concluiu que os usuários mais regulares de SMS eram os que tinham menos problemas em ler e falar em sala de aula.
O aumento do uso desse tipo de comunicação gerou opiniões de que o texting estaria destruindo as linguagens.
Professores também constatam o crescimento do uso de linguagens comprimidas, características de SMS, em provas e exames.
“Estudamos esta área, inicialmente, para ver se havia alguma evidência de associação entre o uso do texto abreviado e a alfabetização, após o retrato negativo da atividade na mídia”, disse Clare Wood, especialista em desenvolvimento psicológico da Universidade Coventry.
“Ficamos surpresos em ver que não apenas a associação era forte, mas que o uso de mensagens de texto auxilia no desenvolvimento de habilidades fonoaudiológicas e da capacidade de leitura em crianças”, disse ela.
